A three-month celebration of endings, beginnings, and conscious growth

A new year opens new possibilities.
It invites us to see the world—and ourselves—through fresh eyes.
To walk new paths.
Or to pause, reflect, and look more honestly at what lies within.

In the Kingdom of Bay’r, located in the land of Ananthara, the turning of the year is marked by an ancient and sacred celebration known as Lir’fael’thaen. This three-month festival honors the closing of the old year while gently welcoming the new, creating space for reflection, intention, and transformation.

The Meaning of Lir’fael’thaen

Lir’fael’thaen unfolds across three months—Nûr’ael, Fael’raen, and Ael’vyn—symbolizing release, transition, and renewal. During this time, clans from the surrounding regions journey to Aeloria, the capital of Bay’r, to take part in the New Year’s Reception.

At the heart of Aeloria stands the Sacred Tree, an ancient symbol of growth, memory, and interconnectedness. It is here that the people gather for the ritual of Kaerun’shae, offering prayers, wishes, and reflections to the goddess Faon’lin.

This ritual is not about grand gestures. Instead, it is an invitation into stillness—an opportunity to listen, to release what no longer serves, and to consciously choose how one wishes to move forward.

The Power of Sacred Questions

Before jumping into the journal prompts - you should get in touch with the sacred tree in order for your prayers and wishes to be heard.

As the old year fades, questions naturally arise:

  • How do I continue from here?

  • What new connections await me?

  • Which paths do I wish to walk in this next chapter of my life?

Within the Kaerun’shae ritual, these questions are not meant to be rushed or “answered” immediately. They serve as symbols—guiding reflections that help us recognize what holds us back, gently let it go, and open ourselves to new perspectives.

Perhaps, even beyond the borders of Bay’r, these questions can help you connect more deeply with your own new year.

Six journal Prompts people in Kingdom Bay’r to return to the Lir’fael’thaen New Year’s Festival.

  1. Which parts of my life do I wish to let bloom anew?

  2. What vision do I want to carry into the new cycle?

  3. What responsibilities am I carrying that are not truly mine and that hinder my growth?

  4. Which qualities within me have already grown in the past year, and which do I wish to cultivate in the coming one?

  5. Which connections in my life nourish my life force—and which drain it?

  6. Which relationship do I wish to heal or strengthen?

Taken together, these questions form a ritual of conscious renewal—a reminder that growth often begins not with action, but with honest reflection.

A Ritual Beyond Time

Lir’fael’thaen reminds us that endings and beginnings are not moments, but processes. By honoring both, we create space for clarity, intention, and meaningful change.

Whether you walk beneath the branches of the Sacred Tree in Aeloria or reflect quietly in your own way, the spirit of Lir’fael’thaen invites you to begin the new year with presence, purpose, and care.
