At the centre of this vibrant realm lies Kael’varun, a city of markets, taverns, workshops and countless stories.
Trade ships arrive in its harbour every day, caravans cross the desert and deep within the southern mountains, the Dur’kaen forge some of Ananthara’s most sought-after artefacts from ancient minerals.
Yet behind the prosperity of V’eild lies a history shaped by dragon rule, rebellion and the deeply rooted desire of its people to determine their own fate.
The Role of V’eild in Ananthara
V’eild is the economic heart of Ananthara.
Merchants, envoys and goods from every kingdom converge here. Vast markets, trade guilds and neutral banks ensure that contracts can be negotiated, currencies exchanged and trade routes protected.
While Bay’r provides food, timber and medicinal plants, and Thal’draen contributes magical knowledge and technology, V’eild connects these resources and carries them throughout the world.
But the kingdom is far more than a place where goods simply change hands.
Its position between sea, desert and mountain makes V’eild a cultural crossroads.
Sailors, craftsmen, nomads, humans, dwarves and travellers from distant lands leave behind their stories, languages and traditions within the streets of Kael’varun.
This diversity has made the kingdom one of the liveliest — and most unpredictable — places in Ananthara.

The harbour of Kael’varun never sleeps.
Massive merchant vessels lie beside smaller transport boats while sailors unload cargo, traders negotiate contracts and bards tell stories from distant shores.
The air carries the scent of salt, spices and seaweed.
Travellers should remain alert, however.
Among the merchants move smugglers, pirates and thieves, and the streets surrounding the docks have earned a reputation of their own.

Whatever you are searching for in Ananthara, sooner or later you may find yourself looking for it in the markets of Kael’varun.
Exotic fruits, spices, brightly coloured fabrics, delicate glasswork, magical artefacts, runestones and inventions from distant kingdoms fill the stalls.
Dozens of languages can be heard at once, spoken by beings from almost every corner of the known world.
The market is loud, chaotic and sometimes dangerous.
That is also part of its charm.

The further one travels from the harbour and crowded markets, the more Kael’varun begins to change.
Narrow alleys open into broad avenues.
Buildings grow taller and more elaborate.
Guards patrol the streets between wealthy houses and palaces.
Above them all stands the royal palace.
Rank and responsibility hold considerable importance within V’eild. Clothing, jewellery, weapons and even the quality of a person’s fabrics can reveal their position within society.

When the sun disappears beyond Kael’varun, the city does not become quieter.
It merely changes its face.
Torches and lanterns bathe the streets in warm light, music pours from taverns and open courtyards, merchants continue negotiating long after darkness falls and bards tell stories gathered from every corner of Ananthara.
Kael’varun is a city that never truly sleeps.
But the night also reveals its more dangerous side.
Between taverns, warehouses and narrow alleyways, gangs, smugglers and pirates conduct their business.
Some control entire districts, while others search for careless travellers, valuable goods or information worth selling.
Especially near the harbour, coins, secrets and stolen cargo can change hands almost as quickly as goods on the official markets.
Those wandering through Kael’varun after dark may encounter celebrations, secret deals, shady figures or stories that have already become legends by the following morning.
That contrast is part of what defines the city:

Beyond the warm coastline and crowded streets of Kael’varun begins an entirely different side of the kingdom.
Wide savannahs and immense dunes stretch deep into the interior.
During the day, the heat can become deadly, while temperatures drop sharply after sunset. Travellers without enough water, supplies or experience can quickly lose their way among the dunes.
Even seasoned travellers speak of mirages, exhaustion and the oppressive silence of the open desert.
Yet the desert is far from empty.
Small oasis settlements lie along the trade routes, offering places where caravans can rest and merchants exchange goods.
Ancient temples and forgotten ruins rise from beneath the sand, while rare spices, plants and fruits found within the dry regions eventually make their way to the markets of Kael’varun.
Many of these ruins date back to forgotten ages.
Some have almost completely disappeared beneath the dunes, yet still contain murals, relics and stories from the time of the dragons and their descendants.
For this reason, the deserts of V’eild are considered not only dangerous, but among the most mysterious regions of the kingdom.

Along its coastline, V’eild reveals a completely different face.
Warm, humid air, lush vegetation and fertile landscapes meet the open sea and some of the kingdom’s most important trade routes.
Between coastal settlements, harbours and smaller villages grow exotic fruits, herbs and spices that eventually find their way onto the markets of Kael’varun.
These tropical regions form a striking contrast to the dry interior of the kingdom and demonstrate just how diverse V’eild truly is.

To the south and along the borders of neighbouring lands rise enormous mountain ranges rich in ore deposits, crystals and rare minerals.
The Dur’kaen in particular share a deep connection with these regions and use the materials found within the mountains to create runestones, protective artefacts and legendary works of craftsmanship.
Yet the mountains are more than a source of raw materials.
They are ancient and spiritual places where traces of forgotten powers are believed to remain.
For many inhabitants of V’eild, the mountains serve simultaneously as sanctuary, borderland and passage between the scorching plains of the kingdom and the colder northern regions beyond.
The Peoples of V’eild

V’eild is home to several cultures whose ideas of freedom, duty and community could hardly be more different.
The Varin’nar, the humans of Ananthara, dominate many of the great cities. Their Thal’ithara is known as Varin – the Flame of Aspiration.
Willpower, ambition, change and self-determination lie at the centre of their culture.
In the northern mountain regions live the Kael’nar.
These nomads deliberately turned away from the strict hierarchies of the cities. They live in smaller clans, follow natural cycles and value experience, courage and wisdom more highly than birthright or titles.
Deep within the southern mountains lie the realms of the Dur’kaen. This ancient dwarven people possesses an extraordinary connection to stone, crystal and dragon magic. Some Dur’kaen carry mineral structures within their very skin, and their smiths are counted among the finest craftsmen in Ananthara. To them, veins of ore are not merely resources. They are known as the Blood of the Old Gods.

Again and again, one name appears throughout the history of V’eild:
the Drae’khar.
They are considered descendants of the Old Dragons and still carry visible traces of that heritage.
Horns, scales and other draconic features may reveal their ancestry, as can traces of unusual magic.
Some Drae’khar live hidden within the deserts of V’eild, sheltering among ancient temples and ruins, while others travel through remote regions as merchants.
Their position within the kingdom, however, remains complicated.
After the disappearance of the Old Dragons, powerful Drae’khar bloodlines came to dominate several societies.
The humans of V’eild suffered greatly under their rule.
Rebellions and civil wars eventually allowed the people to cast off this order and establish a system of their own.
That past still shapes the relationship between the two peoples today.
Drae’khar whose magical abilities become known may still be hunted within V’eild.
Many therefore hide within the deserts, seek refuge in the mountains or leave the kingdom altogether.
Yet the story of the Drae’khar is far from simple.
Not every descendant bears responsibility for the actions of their ancestors, and many now live as exiles or refugees themselves.
Some preserve ancient languages, memories and stories from an age whose truth has long since become entangled with legend, war and political interests.
And within this lies one of V’eild’s deepest conflicts:
A kingdom that fought for freedom from dragon rule must decide how long the descendants of that past should continue to pay for the crimes of those who came before them.
Culture and Religion

The culture of V’eild has been deeply shaped by its history.
After the disappearance of the Old Dragons, many mortal peoples found themselves living beneath the rule of powerful Drae’khar bloodlines.
From oppression, rebellion and war emerged a society that places extraordinary importance on self-determination and personal will.
This belief survives within the Flame of Aspiration.
A person should not wait for gods or destiny to determine their path.
They should create it themselves.
Yet traces of the old faiths remain everywhere.
Ancient temples still stand within the deserts.
The Dur’kaen honour the power of stone and fire within their mountains.
And the enormous dragon wall surrounding Kael’varun serves as a constant reminder that even a kingdom that rejected the rule of its gods can never completely escape their legacy.

One of the most important celebrations within the capital is the Summer Solstice.
On the longest day of the year, the inhabitants gather around a great sundial made of bronze and gold.
The fallen are honoured, and long colourful ribbons are tied around posts surrounding the square.
Each ribbon represents freedom, hope and self-determination.
Afterward, the entire city awakens into celebration.
Merchants open their stalls, musicians and dancers fill the streets and theatrical performances recount stories of the old dragons, past wars and the rebellions that shaped the kingdom.
When night finally falls, a great fire is lit upon the beach.
Smaller flames are then passed from person to person.
They represent the flame each person carries within themselves.
The Legacy of V’eild
V’eild is a kingdom of contrasts.
Tropical coasts and deadly deserts. Royal palaces and chaotic markets. Ancient dragon magic and an unwavering desire for self-determination. Kael’varun embodies this perhaps more strongly than any other place.
Beneath its streets lies the petrified body of a power from the past, while above it markets continue to grow, ships enter the harbour, bards create new stories and people shape their own futures. V’eild reminds us that history may shape who we are but it does not have to decide what comes next.
